State of play and vision of the so called "Circular Region" – trends and opportunities

The first Plenary Session is introductory to the Forum's main topic. At the beginning of the session the results of the substantive report will be presented. The speech of the key-note speaker will open high level debate focused on securing growth and prosperity for the Baltic Sea Region by means of circular economy. During the debate the panellist will try to find answers:

  • What could be the role of circular and sharing economy in addressing the BSR's demographic changes and environmental challenges and their consequences?
  • How can public policy at all levels be re-shaped to best use circular and sharing economy to address the BSR's demographic changes and environmental challenges as well as to improve its competitiveness and prosperity?
  • Can the EUSBSR support the transformation into the circular reality in the BSR?

Business and practical implementation of the circular and sharing economy

The second Plenary Session will be devoted mainly to business and practical implementation of the circular and sharing economy in practice. It is planned to show and analyse best practices and to discuss different stages of development of circular in sharing economy in the global context. During the debate the panellist will try to find answers:

  • Is there any possibility for the BSR to be the future frontrunner in terms of circular and sharing economy?
  • How could the practical implementation of the circular and sharing economy have influence each other the renewable energy sources and future fuels?
  • How could the implementation of the circular economy guarantee ecosecurity in the BSR?
  • Does the circular economy have a real impact on climate change?
  • How the new business models in the BSR – creative industries, social innovations and entrepreneurship influence our daily life?

Demographic dimension of the development of the circular and sharing economy in the BSR The third plenary session will focus on the demographic dimension of the development of the circular and sharing economy in the BSR.

During the debate the panellist will try to find answers:

  • How the transformation of the economic models will influence the labour markets?
  • What are the future challenges?
  • How the development of circular economy and demographic processes such as: depopulation, ageing or migration could affect each other?
  • Is the generation Y ready to face possible challenges resulting from new economic models?
  • Do we need new approach or educational models?
